HKMA

The Hong Kong Musicians Association is a non-profit organization registered in Hong Kong in 1996. The purpose is to gather Hong Kong music professionals, organizing various types of local and international music activities and events, improving peoples living standard, personal qualities, and broaden international horizons.

From time to time, HKMA organises music competitions gathering music contestants from different countries. We also provide training, mentoring and consultancy services to teachers and schools.

Robert Langston was born in London in 1949 and studied at the Royal Academy of Music from 1967-1970, where he won many prizes and diplomas for piano and organ. Subsequently, he studied Music at Cambridge University, where he was organ scholar of Peterhouse from 1970-1972.

 

From 1972 to 1991 he taught and examined Academic Studies, Organ and Piano at the Royal Academy of Music and from 1991 to 1995 at the Royal College of Music, London.

 

Since 1979 he has been a member of the International examination panel of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and his examining work has taken him to many countries, including 9 extended tours of Hong Kong.

 

Since 1995, he has devoted more time to teaching and encouraging young musicians. He has adjudicated at many festivals in the UK and three times at the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival Competition.

 

Additionally, from 1972 to 1988, he was Director of Music at London’s famous St Bride’s Church and from 1988 to 2004 was Organist to the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, London, where he was accorded honorary barrister status. 

 

For over 30 years, he has pursued a career as teacher, performer, examiner and adjudicator. As a pipe organist, he has performed three times as a soloist on the Rieger pipe organ at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre in 2000, 2003 and 2005 and at the Chinese University in 2003 and has given a foyer piano recital at the HKCC (May 2005)

 

Since 2004, he has made his home in Hong Kong, where he has established his own private teaching practice and has a number of gifted young students for piano, pipe organ and degree and diploma paperwork. He draws on his experience as a member of the Diploma panel of the Royal Schools to instruct and prepare students for the diploma exams of all the major examination boards. He has broadcast as a music presenter regularly on RTHK Radio 4 and is currently a part-time lecturer at the Hong Kong Chinese University.
